Project 52 :: iPhone

The theme this week for Project 52 was “iPhone,” and since I take pictures with my iPhone pretty much every day, I had a bunch to choose from.  These are just a few of my favorite featuring Skyy, Utah & Rain…

To see what other Project 52 members shoot with their iPhones, start with Amy Riddett from Bark This Way, and follow the links.

EHS Adoptables :: Short & Sweet

My last shoot at the Escondido Humane Society was mostly focused on photographing a special assignment that’s going to be big…literally (details coming soon), so I only had a quick moment to photograph a couple of adoptable dogs.  The chosen candidates were Mila (short) & Tiny (sweet).

MILA

This spunky little girl recently had surgery and wasn’t suppose to be running around too much, but she refuses to hold back her excitement.  As with the majority of Jack Russell Terriers, she’s full of energy, very playful and super cute.  But she’s also in need of a home, so visit the shelter and take her home today!

TINY

Don’t let the name fool you.  Not only is this guy not tiny, but neither is his heart.  He was so loving, almost too much because he kept trying to sit in my lap, making it a bit difficult to take his picture.  If you want a dog that you could squeeze so hard you think he’ll burst, then Tiny’s the dog for you.  Gotta love this big lug.

Pet Portrait Session :: Cleo

Cleo’s parents had been anticipating their photo shoot for almost a year now, so we were all really excited when it was finally time.  Cleo is a ball chasing, toy hoarding, noodle eating, high flying, car riding, kiss giving, snuggly Whippet/ Basenji sweet heart.  She welcomed me into her home with open arms and had no problem hamming up the camera.  We started off playing with some toys.  She has a huge basket full, her favorite being the ball.  Then, she showed me her noodle slurping talent.  What a crack up! Once she’d had enough carbs, we took her to burn them off in the park area nearby.  It was pretty difficult to get her to mellow out while outside, but a good tummy rub did the trick.  Next was the car ride…She enjoyed the wind in her face so much, it made me want to stick my head out the window!  After a short trip around the block, we headed back to let her rest.  She takes frequent naps with her mom, so it was something we really wanted to capture.  And, boy, did she give us some precious photo opps…So adorable!   All and all, it was a great shoot, hence the image-packed blog post.  I was told after I left, she threw a little pity party because she was sad I had gone. Oh Cleo, someday we’ll hang out again.:)

Project 52 :: Chillin’ Out

This week’s Project 52 theme was “Chillin’ Out” and instead of photographing my usual subjects, I went for a pet of mine who may get plenty of attention, but nowhere near as much as the dogs.  Meet Jack-A.  Long story short about her name…we got her about four years ago and thought it was a boy, so we named him Jack Attack because he would chase all the other fish in the tank.  Come to find out, it’s a girl, so we changed her name to Jack-A (like Jackie) to better suit her gender.  A few years ago, a nasty bacteria infested the tank and Jack-A was the only survivor.  Now she “chills out” (or rather “chills in”) in her tank all by herself.  Her favorite spot to chill is in her cave.  When she’s not chillin’ in the cave, she’s watching tv with us or doing her little swim dance.  Not only has she grown to be a unique and beautiful Cichlid, but also a very cherished pet in our household.

Check out my fellow Project 52 member, Scott Robinson, and see what his take on this week’s theme was.

Holiday Mini Session Test Shoot

The holidays are approaching fast, and that means Holiday Mini Sessions!  This season I’ll be offering custom holiday greeting card packages with my holiday mini sessions.  One of the many steps in preparing my holiday campaign was to not only find the locations I’ll be shooting at, but to do a test shoot there as well.  So, of course I choose my most obedient model, Skyy, to test out the first location.  I found this cute, little park in the heart of a friendly Del Mar neighborhood and I couldn’t be happier with how picturesque it is.  It’s got so much variety as far as photographing goes…flowers, plants, trees, sand, grass, benches, a playground and more.  Best of all, it’s dog friendly!  Me & Skyy had a great time, so we had to share with our friends and fans.  There’s even some really good outtakes I just had to include for amusement.

Stay tuned for the Holiday Mini Sessions!

Dana Cubbage - Awesome location! I especially love the spiky plants and the white sand :) September 28, 2011 – 5:56 am

Jenny - Really awesome! Great location! Love the blue playset!

Project 52 :: First Thing In The Morning

I recently joined a group within Beautiful Beasties (the social network for pet photographers that I’m a member of) who call themselves “Project 52.”  The way it works is every week a theme is chosen and those who participate are challenged to photograph something that corresponds to the theme.  Then, on Friday, we all post our images on our blogs.  Not only is it a fun way to stay inspired and a good opportunity to experiment, but it also helps fellow members gain exposure, because at the bottom of our posts we give a link to view some one else’s blog to see what they came up with that week.  With all that said, here’s my take on this week’s theme “First Thing In The Morning.” First thing in the morning, Utah snuggles up in his favorite blanket.  He practically wrestles himself, rubbing his face deep into the warmth and fuzziness, then lays there until breakfast.

To view more takes on this week’s theme, start with fellow Project 52 member, Ann Kearns.
